Define
Problem

Trader Joe’s new app is the perfect solution for families with full time jobs who are strapped for time, money and resources. These families want to provide healthy meals for their adventurous eaters, but can’t always afford to take them out to restaurants or spend hours meal planning and shopping every week.

Solution

Trader Joe’s Grocery App lets you search for exciting, healthy recipes and meal ideas that fit within your budget and dietary restrictions. With over 4 in 10 Americans now following some kind of dietary restriction, including 9% eating gluten free. This all-in-one grocery app will help you find new recipes that both your family will love and that you can prepare quickly and easily.

Bio

The Lee family is a bunch of San Diego Foodies. Staying active up here in the “Most Entertaining City in America”!

They’re always on the hunt for a good meal but with 2 little ones it can always be a challenge to juggle meal planning and grocery shopping, while staying on a tight budget and finding meal solutions for their son, Ethan who is allergic to gluten.

Beyond that, they love to help out their community and sometimes pick up groceries for an elderly widowed neighbor, Joan.

Motivations
  • Needs a quick efficient way to plan meals and grocery shop
  • With picky eaters, they’re always looking for new meals
  • Looking for meal options that are gluten free is a must
  • Finding tools that help them stick to their grocery budget
  • Efficiently shopping a second list for an elderly neighbor
Frustrations
  • Finding meals the whole family will enjoy AND creating a list AND shopping is a time consuming task
  • Gluten free options sometimes can be more expensive and cut into the budget
  • Shopping for two households can feel like juggling

Testing
Considerations for Testing
  • In order to really understand the target family, I would test the user flow to see if its an intuitive and easy tool that fits their user goals.
  • It would be helpful to test the secondary audience, elderly who get help with grocery shopping, to see if they could navigate to the checkout and select an alternate pickup person.
  • Finally, I would conclude testing with feeling out how families would approach adjusting meal servings to fit the families need.
